FINANCIAL REPORT

  • SPLOST AND LOST:  SPLOST and LOST revenue shown in the report dated September 30, 2023 reflect collections reported for August. For that period, SPLOST collections were $1,227,944.61 which is a $50,658.64 (3.96%) decrease over the same period last year. LOST collections were $748,279.71 which is a $22,288.69 (2.89%) decrease over the same period last year. 

  • TAX DIGEST:  The Tax Digest has been approved so the Tax Commissioner is in the process of preparing our annual ad valorem tax bills to be mailed out.

SIGNIFICANT PROJECTS AND ACTIVITY

  • CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS
    • Evidence Building:  Site work has began.  Scheduled to be completed in April 2024
    • Records Retention:  Scheduled to be completed in October 2023
    • Public Works:  Demo is progressing, Still waiting for a GMP contract, Momon is on site daily.  Scheduled to be completed in August 2024
    • Government Plaza:  Reviewing the quote to replace the boiler line.  Phase 1 environmental study has been completed.  Need to ask Momon for a quote for patching and painting
    • Administration Building:  Slate roof is completed, TPO roof is 90% completed.  Metal coping, gutters, and awnings have not been completed.  Phase 1 environmental study has been completed.  Beginning to review the interior scope of work
    • Sonoraville Tennis Courts:  Scheduled to be completed by the end of October 2023
    • Health Department Storage Facility:  Scheduled to be completed by the end of October 2023
  • ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT:  The Gordon County Development Authority met on September 26. The principal topic of discussion concerned project Pioneer which involves an estimated $150,000,000 expansion of an existing manufacturing facility on South Highway 41. Also, a prospect known as project Gen is still considering the Thor building on Highway 41. Additionally, Project Gen would be a technology manufacturer ultimately employing over 600 people with an average wage of $52,000.

  • EMPLOYEE DEFINED BENEFIT PLAN:  The plan became effective on October 1 and mandatory informational meetings are scheduled next week for employees to receive information and instructions from ACCG regarding individual plan participation.

  • GDOT REGIONAL MEETING:  The City of Dalton hosted a GDOT regional meeting last Friday. The State Commissioner was the featured speaker followed by our District Engineer, Grant Waldrop. Mr. Waldrop mentioned the bridge replacement on Hwy 136 is to begin soon.

  • FIREFIGHTER GRADUATION:  Last Friday the GCFD graduated all 7 candidates in its latest class. Congratulations to these young men and Chief Training Officer Sorrells for attaining a 100% graduation rate for this very enthusiastic group.

  • MISCELLANEOUS:
    • General Administration Committee met
    • Quality of Life Committee met
    • Several law matters handled
    • Met with a Non-Profit seeking to establish Rogers House to address a category of homelessness.
